OUR EXPERTS
To conduct a deep upgrade of their billing and sample storage management platform, the customer needed to scale their capacity by outsourcing several streams of work to a team with vast expertise in modern technologies. Itransition provided the platform’s technical assessment, carried out back-end and front-end enhancements, and developed new features, helping the customer efficiently execute product modernization.
Our customer is a corporation that operates in the life science services industry and delivers solutions that help laboratories, research facilities and clinics manage long term sample storage and related operations. One of its core platforms automates storage monitoring, compliance documentation, and complex financial workflows such as tiered pricing, installment structures, and recurring billing.

Our customer aimed at the modernization of their billing and sample storage management platform for clinics, because its current state was causing operational and strategic challenges. The platform technology stack got outdated, creating limitations for further product development and support as well as performance issues that affected daily operations. These technical constraints not only slowed innovation but also increased maintenance costs and risked diminishing customer satisfaction.
In addition, the platform required redesigning to improve the look and feel, and development of more new features. The customer didn’t have enough developers with the required combination of skills and expertise to migrate the platform to a modern technology stack.
Therefore, the customer sought a tech partner with expertise in modern technologies, experienced in cloud architecture design, containerization practices, and development of scalable server services, as well as practical skills in refactoring legacy code and conducting infrastructure migrations without disrupting business processes. It was also important to have an opportunity to scale the team both in terms of the number of developers and the range of services.
Itransition provided the technical assessment of the customer’s billing and sample storage management platform, conducted substantial modernization of both its back end and front end, migrating the system from the outdated technology stack to the modern one, and introduced multiple enhancements.
At the beginning of the collaboration, Itransition experts conducted a technical assessment of the platform and, as a result, identified several key system issues:
To make the system more stable, reduce the operational load on the team, and accelerate task execution, our team implemented a system that automatically handles tasks in the background, migrated the application to a Kubernetes cluster, that manages how the app runs across multiple servers, enabling horizontal scaling, and automated domain management. These improvements also made the platform better prepared to handle high traffic and unexpected issues without failing.
To eliminate technical constraints for further product development and address performance issues, Itransition team advised the customer on moving to a modern technology stack and performed the following back-end enhancements:
When Itransition joined the project, the customer’s goal was mainly UI redesign. But once our team gained full access to the system, it became clear that the previously initiated frontend migration to Vue.js had been poorly executed as it disrupted core business logic and left it functionally unusable.
To deal with broken workflows, unclear system behavior, and incomplete transitions to new technology, our team had to go far beyond the original redesign scope: we simultaneously stabilized and completed the Vue.js migration, rebuilt essential logic, and integrated the new UI with the remnants of the earlier work. This required rapidly mastering the platform’s business rules in detail to restore a functioning product under tight deadlines.
Our customer aimed at modernizing the user experience as well, so, in parallel with other activities, Itransition introduced significant front-end improvements: we upgraded dashboard and table functionality, introducing pagination, filtering, and more accurate search for records, which improved both performance and usability.
Using the Feature-sliced design approach - an architectural methodology for scaffolding front-end applications - Itransition delivered new features such as Global Consenting and Frosty:
The customer aimed to introduce a new service for storing samples in a separate, centralized cold-storage facility. To achieve this, Itransition designed and delivered a guided workflow that walks users through the entire approval and documentation process. This included collecting the necessary documents, reviewing individual cases, and ensuring that all steps adhere to operational standards. To guarantee clarity, consistency, and controlled transitions between process stages, we implemented the workflow using a State Machine - an approach that allows for centralized and organized management of entity states.
Itransition also integrated several third-party services like DocuSign for digital signatures and Acuity for scheduling. The solution was developed in two phases: the first addressing general, cross-clinic cases, and the second tailored specifically to our customer’s own clinical workflows.
The customer wanted to improve the process of collecting consents for sample storage from patients - signatures, renewals, tracking, and communication - that was handled offline.
To remove operational overhead and eliminate the risk of delays or missing information, Itransition’s team transformed this workflow into digital process:
Throughout the process, Itransition applied mature development practices, conducted regular demos, and provided transparent progress tracking. As a result, all updates went into production smoothly: end users experienced no disruptions, and the rollout was free of issues that could negatively impact their daily workflows.
Itransition successfully conducted a deep upgrade of customer’s billing and sample storage management platform. The improvements significantly strengthened system stability and performance and reduced operational load. They also helped to increase fault tolerance and enable independent, scalable growth – allowing the platform to support multiple clients within a single system and accelerate overall product expansion.
