The 2024 flood cost the Polish insurance market €2B. How did insurers price that risk?

Blind underwriting

Your underwriter receives an application with an address. Opens Google Maps, eyeballs at the nearest river, asks the client about the basement, applies to a regional standard rate. Thirty minutes per decision, medium accuracy at best. At a volume of 500 policies per month, this becomes a bottleneck that directly hits your loss ratio.

Portfolio risk in the dark

Your CRO knows the total sum insured across flood policies but doesn't know how much of it sits in the Oder basin. Doesn't know what happens to the portfolio if the 2010 flood repeats. Can't justify Solvency II capital at the required level of granularity without hours of manual actuarial work.

Reactive, not preventive

When an event on the scale of 2024 happens, you learn the true extent of the damage weeks after the flood, once claims start coming in. By that point, reserves are either raised too late or set too low. Neither satisfies the regulator nor helps the business.

Property-level flood risk, in seconds, for any address in Poland

Single-property scoring

Your agent enters an address. Within a second, they get: expected annual loss, confidence interval, risk category, recommended premium breakdown, and a PDF report ready for the client. Under the hood: a map with ISOK flood zones, neighboring properties for context, and a breakdown of the factors driving the risk.

Portfolio analytics

Upload an Excel file with 10,000 policies. Within minutes you get: a full concentration map, top-20 problem properties, portfolio AAL and P99.5 for Solvency II capital calculation, and stress tests against real historical events (the 2010 and 2024 floods).

REST API for integration

Embed the engine into your underwriting system via the API. Your existing workflow stays unchanged. The flood risk component simply calculates automatically at the scoring stage, in milliseconds. Full Swagger documentation. 99.9% uptime SLA.

Built for the Polish market. Not adapted, built.

Local data, global standards

We run on Polish LiDAR from ISOK (1-meter resolution, better than the European average), on official Polish flood hazard maps from Wody Polskie (MZP), and on the Polish building database BDOT10k. Our damage functions come from the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC), recognized by insurance regulators across the EU. Local precision, defensible methodology.

Transparency by design

Every calculation is documented down to the last input. Your actuary can see all inputs, all assumptions, and all sources of uncertainty. Reports include a calculation ID, model version, and timestamp: everything needed for audit. Compliance with the EU AI Act is architected in, not bolted on.

Not Excel. Not enterprise overkill.

Enterprise solutions cost $200K-$500K per year and take 12 to 18 months to configure. Manual underwriting through Excel and Google Maps is free but doesn't scale. We hit the sweet spot: production-ready in 3 months, an order of magnitude cheaper than enterprise players, with accuracy sufficient for practical underwriting and regulatory reporting.

Not just a model, a partnership

We're not "deploy and forget." The model updates as new data becomes available. After every major event, Copernicus publishes a detailed map, and we integrate it automatically. We calibrate the model on your historical claims data, so it learns your portfolio. This is a multi-year partnership, not a one-time license sale.

Technology defensible in front of any regulator

Terrain data

Poland's national LiDAR dataset (ISOK), 1-meter resolution. Extraction of site geometry for each property.

Flood model

Water surface interpolation from official Wody Polskie / KZGW markers. Three return-period scenarios: 10, 100, 500 years. Connectivity checks to eliminate spurious "bathtub" fills.

Damage functions

JRC Huizinga 2017 standard, six building categories. Adapted to the Polish building stock. Bayesian calibration on partner claims data (where available).

Portfolio aggregation

Monte Carlo simulation with spatial correlation. P99.5 for Solvency II. Loss Exceedance Curves for reinsurance negotiations.

Three roles in your company, three levels of value
