DocuSign eSignature integration with Acumatica Cloud ERP

Itransition integrated the DocuSign eSignature with Acumatica Cloud ERP to address the demand of Acumatica’s business customers.

Founded in 2008, Acumatica is the company behind the popular Acumatica Cloud ERP. With 200+ employees and offices in North America, Asia, and Europe, the company serves over 5,000 customers all over the globe.

SMBs are major users of Acumatica ERP, which adapts smoothly to the needs of businesses from different verticals, offers mobile ERP capabilities, and ongoing monitoring of business processes. With near 300 partners globally, Acumatica ensures the integration of its ERP and its adoption for finance and accounting management, manufacturing process automation, product distribution, project and customer relationship management.

After collecting their customers’ feedback, Acumatica analysts reported that the existing Acumatica document management package lacked an electronic signature feature. The company decided to add this functionality to the suite either as a custom-developed add-on or through integration with a ready-made solution. After some consideration, the company chose to integrate the ERP with another industry leader’s product, DocuSign. The integration would automate document signing and speed up document-centric workflows while preventing users from repetitive manual downloading and uploading of documents.

The customer runs their development center, but its main focus is on the platform’s global development and support. That is why Acumatica decided to look for a partner to perform Acumatica integration with DocuSign.

Itransition had previously assisted the company with fine-tuning different modules of Acumatica ERP. Relying on this positive experience of cooperation, Acumatica chose us to manage the project and deliver the requested feature.


We provided the source code for the customer’s review and implemented the necessary changes to the ERP’s demo version once the solution was approved by Acumatica’s engineers. Once the customer tested the presented demo, Itransition moved on with deploying the integration solution to the production environment.

The solution facilitated document management in Acumatica ERP by making digital signing an integral part of document workflows. The integration allowed end-users to e-sign various types of documents in any Acumatica module, as well as documents imported to Acumatica from third-party systems. The workflow participants can not only send their document for signing, but also track the signature status and speed up the process if necessary.

Each signing request corresponds to a particular document of up to 25 MB. The e-signature feature can be used for files of various formats, including:

  • text (doc, docx, pdf, txt, etc.)
  • images (bmp, jpeg, gif, png, etc.)
  • tables (xls, xlsx, etc.)

The integration provided Acumatica users with the following capabilities:

  • Anchoring personal or shared DocuSign accounts to the EPR account to use the DocuSign feature within Acumatica ERP.
  • Sending documents from Acumatica to DocuSign while specifying those responsible for signing and the workflow order, if there are multiple signatories.
  • Sending standard and custom messages to document recipients.
  • Forwarding reminders with DocuSign signature requests.
  • Synchronizing document statuses between Acumatica ERP and DocuSign.
  • Receiving notifications when the signature request is rejected.


During the project, Itransition’s developers collaborated with both Acumatica and DocuSign representatives to design and implement the required solution. The previous cooperation with Acumatica made it easier for our team to analyze and select the optimal technologies for the ERP vendor.

The integration of Acumatica ERP with the DocuSign eSignature allowed automating routine enterprise digital document management workflows, particularly approval and signing. By combining the advantages of both Acumatica ERP and DocuSign, Acumatica could improve user experience and, as a result, their customers’ satisfaction with the solution.
