The client is a leading global business services provider that offers a comprehensive set of web-based solutions for companies of any size. The project was to deliver new enhanced modules for their intranet system, in response to the client’s new business demands. Itransition was contracted by the client to take over some of the previous provider’s work and to provide further maintenance and development activities.
The existing Intranet portal solution is vital for the company’s successful operations. Thus, efficient product support and its further evolution were critical: it had to be adapted quickly and regularly to new business needs and requirements. The client worked on the project with another software company, but was not fully satisfied with the results.
The customer required that there should have been no communication between Itransition and the client’s current software development services provider. Due to this fact, the project development team lacked information about the product, however, it managed to operate successfully.
The first phase of the project was system revision; two technical experts worked on the project. They performed initial reverse engineering of the product and figured out its internals. At this early stage the team communicated closely with the requirements manager on the customer's side.
During the second phase, the team supported the existing product, fixing the problems identified by the customer and the project team, and developing new components.
The new modules were delivered in one month after the project start date.
The system features the following modules:
- Process management tools;
- Document library;
- Graphical report builder module.
Technologies: Microsoft ASP (Visual Basic), SQL Server 2000, MS CMS Server 2000.
Efforts: 20 man-months.
